Buying a Safe Car
In the United States, it seems as though everyone wants a car. For many, it’s their first birthday gift when they turn sixteen. Others work two jobs to support their home and their car. College students all over the United States enjoy driving their cars. With so many great benefits, it’s easy to see why most people find driving a car the most important thing to do before they turn eighteen.
Driving safety is important. Virtually every driver’s education class prepares people for how to drive safely on the road. Other classes prepare people for what to do for what happens on the road. It’s important to make sure that your car is not only legally roadworthy, but is safe to drive as well. Not only that but safe driving effects your insurance rates. There are companies that specialize in giving you cheap car insurance rates for safe driving.
Almost all cars bought and sold by dealers are inspected by the dealership. If you can afford to get a new car, this is the safest way to go as the car will no doubt have the least amount of damage. However, if you choose to get a used car, that can be a really good deal as well if you simply know how to maintain it. Eighty-two people each year are killed in accidents simply because their windshield wasn’t strong enough and they were thrown out of the vehicle. It’s important to follow safety tips to ensure that these things do not happen to you.
The first important step of driving safety is to ensure that your seatbelt is buckled. This may seem like common sense to some but far too many each year are thrown brutally in, around, or from the car because their seatbelt was not firmly attached. Do not let this happen to you; make sure your seatbelt is safely buckled.
Make sure that upon starting your car everything is working properly, including your gas gauge, emergency break, and any other features your car may have are in good, solid working condition. You should always check that your headlights work even if you don’t plan on driving in the dark.
Practice caution driving on the roads, but be prepared for someone to swerve and hit you. This is known as defensive driving. Make sure your car is airbag safe. Cut down on your own distractions by listening to the radio instead of your iPod, and not driving while you are tired.
